What deadlines do I have to meet to make sure that my scholarship is paid?

The fall deadline for submission of information is November 15 and the spring deadline is March 15. You will be reminded by mail in August and December to submit the verification of enrollment to TOSCA. No further reminders will be given to you. It is your responsibility to have the proper documentation presented to TOSCA by the deadline dates.

What do I have to send to TOSCA to get my scholarship money?

You must send TOSCA an official verification of enrollment from your school. TOSCA will not accept your class schedule as a verification of enrollment. Be aware that many schools do not offer the verification of enrollments over the counter and require several days to produce the documentation. Be prepared and ask for your verification well in advance of the deadline date.

What is a verification of enrollment and where do I get it?

A verification of enrollment is an official form obtained from the scholarship or registrar’s office of your school. It will verify for TOSCA that you are actually enrolled in school as a full-time student with classes totaling 12 units or more. Some schools do not offer a verification of enrollment form and supply only official transcripts. Either form is acceptable to verify enrollment.

Will my scholarship payment be made before my tuition is due?

Most schools require payment of tuition several months in advance of your attending classes. TOSCA will not pay your scholarship until a verification of enrollment is received, which in most cases is after you have already begun attending classes. Your scholarship will be paid directly to the school and they will credit your account. It is to your advantage to meet with a representative from the financial aid office of your school to learn what their procedures are in handling your scholarship payments. Some schools will offer a payment deferral for scholarships.

What is a payment deferral?

Some schools will honor your scholarship as part of your tuition payment. They may allow you to deduct the amount of your scholarship from your tuition. It is to your advantage to meet with a representative from your school’s financial aid office to discuss their procedures are in handling scholarships.

Do I get my scholarship paid in full at the beginning of my school year?

If your scholarship totals more than $500, your scholarship will be paid in two equal payments directly to the school. The first payment will be paid upon receipt of the verification of enrollment from your school and of your attending classes of 12 units or more. The second payment will be made upon receipt of another verification of enrollment at the beginning of your second quarter, trimester or second semester and of your taking 12 units or more.

How do I get my annuities paid?

You must submit your verification of enrollment for scholarship payment to TOSCA. The total amount of annuities payable to you will be included with your first semester payment. All monies will be paid directly to the school.

How many units to I have to enroll in to be considered a full-time student?

You must be enrolled with 12 units or more to be considered as a full-time student and receive your TOSCA scholarship. You must be a full-time student with 12 units or more for both semesters and/or all quarters, trimesters of your school year.

What if I am unable to enroll in 12 units or more?

You must forfeit your TOSCA scholarship for the period in which you are not considered to be a full-time student. If you do not enroll in 12 units or more for the first semester, you may be able to maintain your scholarship for the second semester by submitting an explanation letter to TOSCA by November 15. The request to maintain your scholarship (or a portion of your scholarship) must be voted on and approved by the TOSCA Board of Directors. If you maintain 12 units or more for the first semester of school but are unable to maintain 12 units or more for the second semester and have additional scholarship monies payable to you, your scholarship will be forfeited.

What if I can’t attend school the 1st semester, but plan to enroll the 2nd semester?

You may be able to maintain your scholarship if you notify TOSCA of your circumstances. You must submit an explanation letter to TOSCA and request an extension prior to the first semester deadline date of November 15. The request will be reviewed by the TOSCA Board of Directors and a form of action will be voted upon. You will be notified of the board’s action.

What do I do if my school works on the quarter system?

You are still required to submit your proper documentation by the TOSCA deadlines of November 15 for your first scholarship payment and March 15 for your second scholarship payment. You are still required to have full-time student status.

If I told TOSCA that I was going to attend a 4 yr. University, but I am now attending a 2 yr. Jr. College can I still get my scholarship?

Yes, but you must first notify TOSCA by submitting an explanation letter of your circumstances. The TOSCA Board of Directors will review your scholarship award amount and reduce the amount as deemed appropriate. You must still submit a verification of enrollment form to TOSCA by the appropriate deadline date.

If I told TOSCA that I was going to attend a 2 yr. Jr. College but now I am attending a 4 yr. University do I get the same amount of money as I was awarded?

Yes, but you must first notify TOSCA by submitting an explanation letter of your circumstances. You must submit a verification of enrollment form to TOSCA by the appropriate deadline date.

Do I need to submit a transcript at each semester?

No. The only form of verification that is necessary for scholarship payment is a verification of enrollment. However, your school may not offer a verification of enrollment form but require you to request a transcript.

What if I was awarded a scholarship but I cannot attend college?

Will my scholarship be held-over until the following year?
We regret that we cannot hold-over scholarship awards. As a courtesy, please notify TOSCA by letter of your circumstances so that the appropriate actions can be taken on your scholarship payment.

Will I be notified if TOSCA does not receive my verification of enrollment?

No. It is your responsibility to meet all deadlines for scholarship payments. You will receive reminder postcards of upcoming deadline dates. Once your scholarship payment check is sent to your school, a receipt stating the date that the check was sent will be mailed to your permanent address.
